Inspiring Minds, Creating Futures

Internet Safety Day 2026

Internet Safety Day 2026 will take place on Tuesday 10th February, but as our school is closed that day, we will be marking the occasion in school on Tuesday 3rd February.

This annual event is celebrated in schools across Northern Ireland to help children learn how to stay safe and make positive choices online. It forms an important part of the Northern Ireland Curriculum, which encourages pupils to develop the skills they need to become responsible, respectful and confident users of technology.

This year’s theme:

“Smart tech, safe choices – exploring the safe and responsible use of AI.”

With technology developing quickly, many children are already using forms of artificial intelligence (AI) in everyday life — from voice assistants, to apps, games, and online search tools — often without even realising it.

Throughout the day, teachers will be helping pupils understand:

What AI is in a child‑friendly way
How AI can be helpful in learning and everyday life
How to make safe, sensible and responsible choices when using AI tools
Why it’s important to think carefully about the information we share online
How to ask for help if something doesn’t feel right

Pupils will take part in age‑appropriate discussions and activities in class, and will explore a story or presentation linked to this year’s theme.

How you can support at home

To help reinforce these messages, you might like to:
Talk to your child about the apps and websites they use
Ask them what they learned in school on Internet Safety Day
Remind them that they should always speak to an adult if they are unsure about anything online
Keep device settings, filters and parental controls up to date
Explore online safety resources together as a family

Thank you for your support

Keeping children safe online is a shared responsibility, and we appreciate your help in promoting safe and responsible use of technology at home. Together, we can ensure our children grow up confident, informed and safe in a digital world.

If you have any questions about Internet Safety Day or online safety in general, please get in touch.
